Compress PDF

Choose a compression method to reduce your PDF file size.

What can Compress PDF do?

Choose lossless PDF cleanup or raster compression for scanned documents. The result depends on the original content.

How to use

  1. Click “Choose files” to add PDF files, or drag them to the upload area.
  2. Choose lossless cleanup or scanned-image compression.
  3. Click “Start processing”, then download the result.
Example

For scanned handouts, try image compression. If selectable text and links matter, start with lossless cleanup and compare the downloaded result.

Before you start

Raster compression removes text selection, links and interactive forms. If the output is not smaller, the original file is provided instead.

Limit: 50 MB per file, 5 MB for text files and 100 MB in total. Available device memory may impose smaller limits. Files are not uploaded to a conversion server.

Tool FAQ

Why is my compressed PDF not smaller?

An already optimized file may not shrink after object cleanup. CAPYPDF compares the output size and keeps the original if it is smaller. Try image compression for scans, then check readability.

Can I compress a PDF below 1 MB or 2 MB?

There is no target-size setting. Image quality can be adjusted for scanned-page compression, but the final size depends on page count, resolution and source content.

Which mode preserves selectable text?

Lossless cleanup preserves existing text and links. Scanned-image compression renders pages as images, so text selection, interactive links and forms are not retained.

Can this online PDF compression tool reduce every PDF file?

Compression depends on the file. Already optimized PDFs may not shrink, and an exact target size is not guaranteed. The original is kept if a candidate output is larger.
